Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 4.8 And Hits $965B Valuation
Anthropic announced Claude Opus 4.8 and a $65B funding round on the same day, pushing its valuation to $965B.
Opus 4.8 comes at the same price as 4.7 and claims stronger performance in coding, computer use, financial analysis, and advanced reasoning tests.
It also adds Fast Mode, effort control, and parallel sub-agents in Claude Code for complex tasks.
Key Details
New model: Claude Opus 4.8
Price: Same as Opus 4.7
Strengths: Coding, computer use, financial analysis, and reasoning benchmarks
Reliability: Better at flagging uncertainty and avoiding unsupported claims
Fast Mode: Reportedly 3x cheaper
Claude.ai: Adds effort control
Claude Code: Adds parallel sub-agents
Funding: $65 billion raised
Valuation: $965 billion
Next: Anthropic also teased a Mythos-class AI in the coming weeks
New investors: Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix
Why It Matters
Anthropic has reached a major milestone: a valuation reportedly higher than OpenAI and a model that leads across many key benchmarks.
The company’s safety-first positioning is now showing strong commercial traction, even as rivals question the approach. For now, Anthropic is proving that trust, reliability, and frontier performance can be a powerful combination in the AI race.
Apple’s New AI Siri To Take On ChatGPT
Apple’s long-delayed AI Siri is reportedly taking shape with a major redesign powered by Google Gemini.
The new Siri may work more like ChatGPT, with AI search, chat, iOS task support, and access to third-party AI agents.
Key Details
Interface: Siri may live inside Dynamic Island with a swipe-down AI experience.
AI search: It could answer web queries with rich cards, similar to Perplexity.
Chat app: A deeper swipe may open a dedicated ChatGPT-style Siri app.
External models: Users may get the option to route queries to other AI models.
iOS features: AI photo editing, wallpaper creation, and natural language shortcuts are also expected.
Why It Matters
Apple has been slow in the AI race, but this could bring advanced AI directly to more than 1B iPhone users. If the rollout works, Siri could become a serious everyday AI assistant. If not, Apple may fall further behind OpenAI and Google.
Meta Launches Paid AI-Plans For Instagram, Facebook, And WhatsApp
Meta is rolling out new paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, while also testing separate plans for creators, businesses, and Meta AI users.
The new plans are called Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus. They offer extra features like profile customization, story insights, super reactions, premium stickers, and more.
Meta is also building a wider subscription ecosystem called Meta One, which may include higher-tier plans for users who want more access to Meta AI.
Key Details
Instagram Plus: $3.99/month
Facebook Plus: $3.99/month
WhatsApp Plus: $2.99/month
Features: Story insights, profile customization, extra pins, app themes, premium stickers
AI angle: Meta is testing AI-focused subscriptions for heavier Meta AI usage
Meta Verified: These plans do not replace Meta Verified
Why It Matters
Meta is moving beyond ads and testing how many users will pay for extra features across its biggest apps. The bigger signal is AI monetization: Meta AI may stay free for basic use, but heavier users could eventually be pushed toward paid plans.
Microsoft Prepares Its Own Coding AI Model
Microsoft is reportedly preparing a new in-house AI coding model for GitHub Copilot.
The model is expected to be part of a wider set of Microsoft-built AI models for coding, reasoning, transcription, speech, and images.
The move signals Microsoft’s push to rely less on outside AI partners and build more control into its own AI products.
Key Details
Company: Microsoft
Product focus: GitHub Copilot
Model type: Coding-focused AI model
Other models: Reasoning, transcription, speech, and image models
Goal: Improve Copilot and strengthen Microsoft’s own AI stack
Status: Reported by The Information; Microsoft has not commented publicly.
Why It Matters
Microsoft has been one of the biggest winners of the AI boom through its OpenAI partnership. But this move shows a clear shift: Big Tech wants more ownership of the models powering its core products.

Google increased Omni generations for Ultra users and addressed Gemini’s usage-limit issues with free Flash-Lite prompts, limits on expensive requests, and better usage tracking.
Elon Musk clarified that SpaceX’s compute deal with Anthropic is for 180 days, not three years as stated in the S-1 filing, though he said a longer agreement could still happen.
CNN sued Perplexity, claiming the AI startup’s tools reproduce parts of its paywalled articles “verbatim.”
An AI consultant told Axios that one client accidentally spent nearly $500M in a single month after failing to set usage limits on employee Claude accounts.
Google fixed Gemini Omni usage-limit issues after users complained that failed or heavy requests were draining quotas too fast. Google also doubled Omni video limits for Ultra users and made Flash-Lite prompts free from quota counting.
OpenAI gave Japanese financial institutions access to GPT-5.5 to help strengthen cyberattack defense. Japan’s finance minister said this is meant to help banks respond to AI-driven security risks.
